Finca La Colmena, situated 1900m above sea level in Lonya Grande, a district in the Amazonas region of Northern Peru is owned by the Díaz Campos family. Economic migrants from the Peruvian Highlands, these days the farm is managed by Jorge, the third son of the family, who spent a couple of years working directly for the NORCAFE cooperative, of which they are now members.

Dedicated to coffee cultivation, livestock and beekeeping, La Colmena has three hectares of coffee trees with another two planned in the coming year. Predominantly growing Caturra and Bourbon, the varieties making up this lot, the coffee is first depulped, before a wet fermentation for between 24 and 36 hours, then dried on pallets in a parabolic dryer for up to 20 days. With annual production currently around 60 bags, the planting of the additional hectares brings hope of pushing that figure above 100 bags in the future.

We hope you enjoy this, our first Peruvian coffee and hope it to be the start of something special. Thank you Jorge, it really is delicious!
